About Me & My Blog

Hello, I am Jenny Ann Fraser, and I write Arriving At Your Own Door, which is a line from my favourite poem,Love After Love by Derek Walcott.

I have been a professional costumer in theatre, dance and film for over 15 years. Currently, and for the past 10 years I have been the Head of Wardrobe at a Theatre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

In the beginning, I started this blog for the sole purpose of promoting a business that I was planning to start. I did not know that I could write and I had no idea that I would love to write. (Life can be full of surprises that way!) I didn’t even know what I would write about, so I decided to allow my then untitled blog to tell me what it wanted to be when it grew up.

The thing is, I know from my own life that there never has to be an end to growing…Up, or in any other direction.

At this point,  I can’t imagine that Arriving At Your Own Door will ever stop evolving. So, don’t be surprised to see changes as time goes by!

So far, writing this blog has been an adventure in self-discovery and as a result,  I have put my business plans on hold indefinitely to explore what writing can teach me. My goal is to share what I have learned from my experiences with anxiety and depression, personal growth and life in general. I hope that my journey might in some small way inspire others to believe in our innate abilities to grow and find some peace within ourselves.

I hope you can both enjoy and benefit from reading my blog and know that all comments and suggestions are greatly welcomed and appreciated. They, more than anything have given me the courage to forge ahead.

If you wish to contact me directly, please feel free to email me.

Wishing you much love and peace,

    Hi Jenny,
I like the concept of your blog very much. I also found Derek Walcott’s poem on the Internet and I wrote it down in my “Inspiration Notebook” to refer to it whenever I need some boost of mood.
Congratulations on your determination and very best wishes to you!

      Thank you so much!
Yes, it is a beautiful poem. I have it posted on my kitchen wall and I refer to it often. I’m so glad you found and enjoyed it!

Wow a professional costumer, sounds like a pretty cool career! I like this “about me” page, it’s very well written! I look forward to getting to know you better through this site and facebook! 🙂

      Hi Britanny!
Thank you for your kind words.
It’s funny, but after 16 years making costumes, I will be finished in (WOW) 10 days. I’m moving on to an entirely new career.
I guess I’ll have to update my about page… 🙂
I haven’t been blogging for a while because I’m so busy with this transition, but I’m not only looking forward to getting back to my writing as soon as I get settled in the new job, (which will be much less demanding) but I’m working on a plan to really change things around here for the better.
I am also looking forward to more interaction, and more time spent reading what others have to say.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
